I do myself

When our son was about two, he started to exert his independence – especially from his
sister who always tried to do things for him.

“I do myself.” he’d exclaim, pushing her away.

As adults, we often continue to say “I can do it myself.” We don’t allow others to do their part
because “it’s easier to do it myself.” Or we push others away who want to come alongside us.
Or we push the Lord away. Or we’re afraid to let go. The truth is that God gave us each other
for a reason.

Take a look at I Corinthians 12. God intended us to rely on each other. He created each of us
with unique gifts and abilities to work together as one body and to respect those gifts in each
other. We’re not all an arm or a kidney but we can trust that God knows what each of us needs
in order to do the job He called us to do. Together we are one body – “being transformed by the
Holy Spirit, being changed from glory to glory into the image of Christ.” II Corinthians. 3:18.

Bringing it home – Who am I pushing away that God has put in my path to help me through a
difficult period or in a project He’s entrusted to me? Or – where do I need to let go so God can
bless someone else? Or – how am I pushing God away?

Have a great week with God and each other.
