How awesome

Debate rages at Church Worship Team Rehearsal last Thursday.
Okay - it wasn't really a raging debate. It was an interesting discussion among the singers and musicians about whether or not a line in the song we were working on was suppose to end with an exclamation mark or a question mark. It sure got everyone talking about what we were singing - "How awesome is the Lord Most High" - notice that I didn't put a "?" or a "!"
How many times have we sung that song and not thought deeply about the words - regardless of the punctuation. Think about it. If this line ends in a question mark - then it's asking a great question - "How awesome is the Lord Most High?" If the line ends with an exclamation mark - then it's making a great statement of fact "How awesome is the Lord Most High!"
My trusty old thesaurus, lists a lot of synonyms for the word "awesome." Some of them are: awe-inspiring, exalted, fearsome, heart-stirring, inspiring, majestic, magnificent, overwhelming, spine-tingling, wondrous, zero cool…
Wow!
So what do you think? Question or exclamation or both? And does it really matter anyway? Either way, the line carries a punch. We serve an awesome God.
Bringing it home - What difference does the message of this song/scripture make in your life? How awesome is the Lord Most High?!?!?!
Have a great week with our awesome God.
