Men
Men of Abby Free
At Abby Free we have a vibrant men’s work that operates in an informal manner. But it happens nevertheless in crucial and significant ways that make a difference in the lives of the men of the church, the church as a whole and to the community around us.
Men love to be physical. So, there are men who band together to work on improving the church building or repair musical instruments used for worship or set up and take down event props. We also work with Sister Acts, a ministry of Abby Free Women’s Ministries, to meet the physical needs of the individuals and families of our church. These needs include helping people to move – loading and unloading trucks – and accomplishing minor home-improvement tasks.
Other men meet regularly to compete in floor hockey or other sports where new attendees are always welcome.
Every week, other than during the summer, men meet every Tuesday morning at the church to talk over breakfast, hear a man speak on a subject of interest or recount his life story, and to pray for the needs of the men and their families. This group of men has grown to appreciate the bond they have with each other – and they invite others to join them, too.
It is through activities like these that men get to associate with each other and derive a sense of camaraderie through the process.
Still other men take it upon themselves to visit with older men who aren’t as physically robust as they once were. A marvelous exchange happens in these visits. The younger men learn from the older men’s lives and ministry experiences while the older men enjoy male companionship that every man appreciates. They also visit with men with physical challenges that prevent them from participating in activities.
Some men meet for coffee regularly, go on hunting or fishing trips, or gather to play pool. The important thing is that they enjoy friendships through their activities.
And, in an intentional-outreach way, men seeking to know God are invited to join in, to learn what these men know.
If you are interested in learning more about these activities call the church office or during the Sunday Service check off “Men’s Group” under Adult Ministry on the backside of the yellow Count-Me-In form found in the bulletin.
